Photos, Exif, GPS and You
Yeah, that's right, Electric Eye. This is either the most freaking awesome advancement in Crankfire technology ever, or an almost entire waste of time, or something that is so-so that some of you may like, while others will have no idea what is going on. So what's up? We now support gps-Exif! Now calm down, relax, yes, I understand how exciting this is, I know, I know... baby steps. Ok, in a nutshell, we now read and write geographic data from and to the photos you upload. You should really humor me and make an attempt to read about it. Getting a Jump on Halloween
So it is still September, I realize this. I simply like to get an early jump on the Halloween spirit (pun intended). With that being said, during my research on how to put together a convincing Charo costume for this years festivities, I had this idea to pull together as many myths, legends and ghost stories that relate to the places we pedal our bicycles. Then I would make it into a rare Crankfire Editorial, with a sort of fancy google map mashup to make it even more digestible. Posted on Sep 19 2007

November 5-6, 2006 - Plattekill #7 race
Went up there solo to meet up with our buddy Tom Orsini and Lander. I rode with the guys and a couple others from Expert classes - Ivan and Carl from NYC. We had a lot of fun! My race run didn't go that well since I am noticeably out of shape compared to a month ago. I fell twice, but got up and went, and finished 6th in a class of 10. After "Dreadnought", I slid out and put my bar into the ground, effectively twisting my bar about 20 degrees. I just got up and went again, with my bar twisted. This made things slightly more difficult, as if I needed more, but I finished. All in all, it was a good way for me to end the 2006 race season! One of my biggest drops and a bunch a good race results. I'll take it! Until next year.... results: video of Dreadnought: Posted on Nov 7 2006

Highlands GS2 First Race on October 1
We had a blast at Highlands. They have done a really good job with the trails they have so far and I have some large expectations about what will happen in the next year or so. Their first race went extremely well with a decent turnout in the middle of NH. They also did a fantastic job at running the whole thing! Nice job guys! Anyway, back to our program, the course was one of the funnest courses of 2006. Lots of challenging stuff and interesting obstacles, like the step up and incorporating the half pipe. Good mix of a course. So, Saturday was overcast and clear of moisture and fun to warm up and ride. I met up with Daryl and Tigs who came down from UVM. It was cool to see them. Sunday brought the rain and some terribly slippery conditions indeed. My race run went horribly as I fell twice and had a few poor line choices - I think I finished 18th/21 in the Pro class. Tigs smacked one of his balls while practicing on Saturday and was nursing himself back to health. And Daryl had a pretty good run, but I can't find a posting of any results, so I don't know exactly how he did. It was a fun weekend and a good couple days of riding. Took some runs with Slim and Daryl after the race which were really fun. And I had some ridiculous crash coming out of one of the berms I came into really fast. Got tossed up on my stem on my stomach like Superman and I think I rode like that with arms extending towards Earth for about 10 feet or so (at least a couple seconds). It was scary and so funny afterward!! Results (by memory) Duf - 18th/20 Pro DH Posted on Oct 4 2006
ECCC UVM Race at Bolton Valley
Had an awesome weekend up at UVM. Arrived friday night and sat around in Slims house. Saterdays practice was uber muddy and it rained most of the day. Managed to get a couple of runs in, not like pickin lines really mattered much but it was fun to slid around... Saterday night was crazzy, Had a total blast at the Prom, probably too much fun. Sunday morning came way to early, we had a late start and got to the mountain just in time to get a single practice run in. We all had decent race runs, Tigg took a digger and ended up slippin 'n slidding in the woods.. I (Pete) ended up in 6th, Dan in 9th, Daryl in 15th and Tigg in 18th. Results: Posted on Sep 24 2006

Mt Snow Ironhorse Series Race #4 Final - September 17, 2006
Well, dragged my butt out of bed after being in a wedding the day/night before for Matt & Lisa Dufour. We had a great time, but it was time to get moving to get to Mt Snow to sneak in a few practice runs before racing. Got a call from Daryl on the way that ampped me up to get there to ride with he and Todd, who were driving down from UVM. Got there at 9, registered, and got ready. Ended up getting only 2 practice runs, the first of which was extremely cautious because my idiot mechanic (me) put the shock on upside down and didn't check it! So I was running the risk of breaking the reservoir off. Of course I switched it after that run. Second practice run was pretty Daryl said he was having trouble staying over his bike and therefore was all over the place. Didn't get many practice runs though either Daryl, so... Finished, but towards the end of the pack. Couple pics that aren't exciting really:

Plattekill Race #5
Drove up on Sat night to stay over and get some practice runs early on Sunday morn before my race run. It downpoured late on Saturday afternoon and muddied up the course really good. Somewhat slick on Sunday morn, but due to the beautiful day, it started to dry up slightly. The course was really good with some tougher tech sections, but nothing too Plattekill insane, several drops, grass sections with turns, lots of pedaling, and most of the usual Plattekill gnarl. My race run was going well until I slid out on an off camber section and laid down the bike. I got it back together right away and put a solid run together, finishing 1st in my class. The time I had would have been mid pack in the Pro class, so I was happy with my run. Bringing home the cash baby and representing! results And for the series, Pete is in 13th for the Expert 19-29 class and Dan's in 21st/41. Posted on Sep 11 2006
Bromont Trip and Bolton Valley Race
Me(Pete), Dan and Tigg went up to Burlington Vermont last weekend (8/18-8/20) for the Bolton Valley Race. We decided to head up early so we could get some extra riding in. Friday we hopped back in the car and headed to Canada... after fighting our way threw the boarder we arrived at Bromont Mountain.(Check it out @ http://www.skibromont.com ) This place was totaly sick! Long ass runs and a ton of good lookin Canadian babes at the water park.. The trails were technical up top but really opened up and let you lay on the gas towards the bottom. There was some built up stuff but mostly just nice fast single track. It was definatly worth the 1.5 hour drive from Burlington. Ok now for the Race: Bolton Valley is a smaller mountain about 30 minutes south of Burlington. We headed down around noon on saterday for practice. We knew it was going to be an awesome course cause it was built by some east coast pinners... and it definatly was! We had a solid day of practice and also managed to jump a van or too> Tigg and Dan did pretty well for there first Pro race! They both had solid runs and looked quick threw the bottom section. The course was ablosulty soaked! It rained way hard all day and didnt let up until we were driving home.... Either way it was an awesome race and weekend. Thanks again Slim for letting us crash at your sweet crib! Posted on Aug 25 2006
Mt Snow Race #3 - August 7th
Daryl and I went up to meet with Tigs and his UVM boys on Sunday morning. We got 3 practice runs before we had our race run. The course was alot of fun - 90% Super D course minus the climbs and a nice new, rooty singletrack up top. We had a really good time and Tigs and I did well. My time wasn't all that great, but not bad for a few practice runs I guess. It was good enough for me to win my class though! And Tigs got 2nd, again up on the podium! Nice job!! I think we'll be moving up for next year little bro. Daryl had the bad luck of getting a flat on his race run and therefore finished 18th. Duf - 1st Something funny worth mentioning... We were there for the entire awards part and I guess as I was spacing out, they must have called my name, so I missed my picture on the podium. What a dope! We were all laughing about it. Until next time... results: http://www.mountsnow.com/summer/images/IHSeries/IHDH_race3results.pdf Posted on Aug 8 2006

Tyler Mill XC race
Well, been gone for ten days and haven't really been on a bike in at least twelve, except for riding a total of 10 miles on a 24" to do laundry in the hot Oregon sun. Got on my road bike for a warm up on Sat for an hour and raced at Tyler Mill on Sunday. It proved to be a classic late July summer day with temps in the 90s and slight humidity. I felt pretty good and my bike worked well, but I wasn't sure how hard to push it without killing myself. I finished 8th out of 17 for the 30-39 Sport class. not too shabby for not being on the bike in a bit. Posted on Aug 1 2006

Diablo #2
OK. Here’s the breakdown for Diablo #2!! Pete – Am 6th The guys all went down on Saturday and when I spoke with Dan late Sat. morn, he was so ampped on the course that I couldn’t wait to get down there the next morning!! The course was slightly different than most of the Diablo and Plattekill courses with lots of high speed lines. Times in the Pro class were packed right in there, and same with the Ams. Pete had a good run as far as I know. He’s been riding really strong this year and I’m psyched! Tigs was freakin’ rippin’ the course!! The couple lines that I watched him ride were unbelievably fast. Holy shit!!! Unfortunately, on his race run, he ran into a tree that apparently snuck in front of him while he was warping to another universe. He still finished 7th, right behind his bro. Dan rides really strong as well and pretty solidly. I think he does slightly better in the gnarl that is East Coast rocky, rooty singletrack though. Nice Dan! My run started with a nice slip practically out of the gate, so I had to didn’t get a couple pedals I ought to have. I’ve been having pedal troubles and maybe its just time to get new Mallets or move towards flats. We’ll see. Anyway, my run was solid. I took 1 or 2 lines slightly conservatively so that I wouldn’t slip into the slower line. I was satisfied with my result. http://diablofreeridepark.com/images/pdf/06DOMINATIONROUND2.pdf Posted on Jul 14 2006
Mt Snow – NMBS #3
Crankfire Racing is doing really well so far this season. Our record now is 4 podiums out of 5 DH races! Not too bad so far! Tigs !st! of 35 total/33 to finish. despite destroying his Boxxer a couple of weeks prior at the U.S. Open. SRAM wanted to know if he was in the hospital. They said that besides the broken arch, twisted crowns, ovalized stanchions, and mashed internals, everything was fine. Dan bought a bike online and then let Tigs borrow the fork for his Mt Snow domination! Nice job Tigs! That’s 2 stars for you now! Pete 8th of 35 total/33 to finish. Pete always rides well and he’s only getting better. Watch out Tigs! Good finish in the top 10 for a tough class! Dan 14th of 35 total/33 to finish. Dan was doing well too and he’s finally gotten his bike dialed in with the new Fox 5.0 and loving it! Good job Dan! Daryl 29th of 35 total/33 to finish Daryl had a tough Friday practice when he fell and nailed his shoulder into a tree on the rooty chute section. He was hurting pretty badly, so he took it easy on his race run. Duf 6th of 18 total. I was doing pretty well and I had a good, clean race run. Just gotta stay off those brakes 4 seconds longer for a top 2 finish. Getting there. The weekend was quite fun all in all with the new campground that was found. We had a good setup and quite a few people come hang out, support, and cheer for us as we went by. That’s always such a joy to hear someone on the other side of the tape yelling your name! Thanks to all who came out! results: Posted on Jun 20 2006

Plattekill Race #2
First off, I have to congratulate Pete on his first podium in Expert class. Nice job Pete on 2nd!! Pete had a killer time too overall! This puts Crankfire racing at 3 out of 5 podiums so far this year. Dan’s turn is next! Dan also did well and finished with 6th despite a slip up. I had a big slip up at the bottom of the chute and didn’t get my sh!t together until the last 25 secs of the race. I finished 5th. The 2nd Plattekill race was this past weekend and I met Dan & Pete up there on Saturday to practice. The course was pretty fun. It had all the usual Plattekill sketch, but with lots of mud added to the mix. The chute in the course definitely added an extra challenge. We had a good time and none of us got hurt, so… Pete – chute Duf – chute Posted on Jun 6 2006
U.S. Open race
YO!!! Big race this past weekend that started out with some serious rainfall and then ended with two beautiful days to ride and race. The U.S. Open of Mt Biking at Mt Creek in NJ has become one of the largest DH races of the season. I believe there were around 500 people that competed for $1000s of dollars in prizes and cash. Qualifiers on Saturday started out for the Pros on a wet course and the sun just baked away the moisture as the day went on so the Ams had a pretty dry course by the end. It turned out to be a gorgeous day and I was nervous as hell racing Pro for the 3rd time ever. Pete decided not to race because of interferences with his new job and I guess basically the same for Daryl. So there were three left to represent Crankfire. Dan did pretty well, though he caught up to some kid in the bermed out section at the bottom and the kid wouldn't move. No matter, Dan made it into the Finals with 33rd place out of 257 people who raced. Dan shaved some time off his Final run and ended up with 63rd place out of the 100 who qualified to race on Sunday. Chris qualified at 116th and missed qualifying by about 6 seconds. Tigs must have been rippin' coming through this turn when he took a line way inside, hit a rock, snapped the arch on his Boxxer, and fell hard. He got up and went but didn't quite make it. A crash replacement is in the works. I missed qualifying by 4 seconds and getting 68th out of 153 who raced. We had a blast the rest of the day riding and photo sessioning. other pics can be found here, including Tigs famous fall... Dan #343 Tigs #320 Qualifiers: Posted on May 31 2006
Gearing up....
We had a pretty good weekend this past one, though it was cold, rainy, wet, and then sunny and windy later on Sunday. Dan was still out a bike, so he came to hang out with us and take pics. Pete seemed to be doing pretty well and ended up finishing in one piece and around mid pack in the Am class. Tigs was ripping both days and finished with his second? podium finish to date. This was the first one that I witnessed and many more are to come. Third place finish out of 88 Ams, not bad. Not bad at all! I really wasn\'t feeling all that great on the course to start, and then it started raining a little around noon on Sunday. So, I wasn\'t psyched to race.... I ended up 44th/51 in the Pro class with a couple stupid falls and an almost fall sliding across a wet bridge sideways at one point. oh well, there\'s always next time. Nice job boys! Crankfire Racing Team Update
Back on the horse for the 2006 race season, the Crankfire Racing team was out tearing it up last weekend! Tigs (Chris) was riding with his college bros at Bromont for the weekend. Pete was rippin on Sunday after having a slight amount of trouble getting back on the big horse on Saturday. Pete finished 6th out of 18 in the Expert 19-24 class in DH. Dan is without a DH bike due to lack of wheels and a shock, but he raced 4 Cross on his Intense Tracer anyway! He had some tough competition because he was lumped with two Pros in his first heat. Dan did rip it up though, finishing 3rd by just a bit on his first heat!! No results were posted for 4 Cross on the Plattekill website. Daryl was riding well and ended up with a 15th place finish out of 18 in one of the most competitive classes behind the Pro class (Expert 19-24 DH). I felt pretty good both days despite the sketch that defines the courses at Plattekill mountain. The \"new\" bike is sick with the FOX 40, Sun Ringle Eight Tracks, Maxxis Minions, and Hayes El Caminos. Anyway, I placed 2nd in the Expert DH 30-34 class after not being able to race last year because of difficulty in getting a bike and then a broken collarbone. I am hoping for a great, injury-free year!! I also raced XC a couple of weeks ago in a slopfest during a monsoon, or so it seemed! I was happy with the 11th/21 finish on this roadie type course. That\'s my best finish there to date! Looking for more fun with my racing little brothers and getting Tigs back! It\'s gonna be a good year!!! Some pics can be found here and more will be posted soon. Amazing first sequence of 3 pics, one footed superman off a 6 footer (\"broken tooth\")!!! Awesome! race: training: Enjoy! Thanks to all of you for your support!!! We can\'t do this without you! Have a great day! Posted on May 16 2006

Theme Mapping
It is probably way too early to release this feature for fear of whatever bugs it might still contain - but I am doing it anyway. So... notice the options under the map on the main page. This allows you to geographically and thematically browse the trails, events, bike shops and clubs that our little online community might hold. By doing this, it not only makes the site easier to use and maybe even a little cooler, but it opens up the possibility to expand this site on more of a national level. Posted on Apr 22 2005

Elevation Profiles et al.
I decided to get into extracting data from our library of collected GPS data, and I have to admit, I think I got something. Uploaded GPX data is now automatically parsed in order to extract the total mileage and the minimum and maximum elevations. Using this data I was then able to construct elevation profiles. Pretty cool by me. Check out this Middlesex ride. The forum announcement can be found here. Posted on Mar 25 2005

I have been hard at work trying to improve the mapping features on this - namely I wanted to use topographic maps as basemaps. Other States?
You asked for it, you got! Ok, well, no one asked for it - but I didn't want other states to feel left out. I have added in the ability to add trails, bike shops and data for any state in the US. And mapping goodness for these will be coming soon as well.

REDESIGN
You may notice things are looking a bit different. Yeah, hang in there - this may take a few days to get everything fixed up.

Hosting....
Had a slight hosting issue earlier today. Sorry about that. Also, check out the forums for a sneak peak into the clubs module.
Oh yeah, and stay tuned for some fancy live map features. Posted on Sep 29 2004
Crap
I broke my ankle a couple weeks back. I haven't really done much here on the site since then. But hang in there, the clubs stuff is pretty close.

Close
The clubs module is getting very close to completion. Maybe someone will use this feature. I can only hope.

Progress?
Nothing huge to report, i added a new theme to the Racer Portfolio, cleaned up some bugs, added a popup calendar to the add event page and I am currently working on the Clubs Module. Which is coming along just swimmingly thank you.

Issues -
Had some hosting issues yesterday as some of you noticed. Apparently their database.server took a dump. But it looks like everything is back to normal now though. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Event Calendar -
The event calendar is in working order. Still needs some tweaking and will change slightly when I get the clubs module working, but you can add and view events at your liesure.

RACER PORTFOLIO
Alpha version of our Racers Portfolio is up! What is this you wonder? It's a free service we provide to allow you to track and promote your racing career. Check out it in your user profile.

Mount Snow -
Mount Snow Photo Gallery is up. I am a horrible photographer. I am sorry. Enjoy the pictures silently.

We are back!
Mount Snow was a blast as usual. I am retaining my title as worst sports photographer ever. Crappy pictures should be up this evening sometime I hope. Have some video too, which is equally bad.

Ooh ah, sitemap
Added in a preliminary sitemap to the site and have made some excellent headway on the Racers Portfolio module. Also, please not progress will be slowed for the weekend because I will be attending the NORBA Nationals at Mount Snow. Woohoo!!

Contributions are up -
Got user contributions pages up. Within each users profile you can now see any users recent posts along with any data (trails, waypoints, etc) they posted to this site.

Progress?
We are up to 15 members which is nice - keep spreading the word! I also wanted to get some input on a "Racer Portfolio" enhancement - look here. And work has also begun on the event calendar. So things are moving along nicely.

Forums are ALIVE!
I decided that my homebrewed comment and rating system here certainly is kickass - but for full on discussions, something more full featured and 'standard' would be a better choice . So I installed phpBB and hacked it up a bit to work with my user authentication. Seems to be working somewhat seemlessly....

Not too bad of a restart.
Got some new features live: adding bikes to your profile, link index listing half done (see software under resources), contact form done, and a bunch of random fixes. Also we are up to 6 members, which i am thinking isn't so bad considering no recent promotion has been done - thanks all!

So it begins again.
Things may look kinda the same, but they are not. Crankfire.com got an overhaul my little droogs. But there is still a long way to go and lots to do.

If you want to become some sort of contributing editor, please drop me a line. Maybe you want to write an editorial, submit a review, have some sort of announcement you want to get out? |

It is probably way too early to release this feature for fear of whatever bugs it might still contain - but I am doing it anyway.
